PF-520: a 10-ton hydraulic scissor hoist for 12–16 ft dump bodies

The Prime Force PF-520 is a popular 10-ton-class hydraulic scissor hoist for suitable 12–16 ft dump trailers and dump truck bodies. Its combination of a 5.5-inch-bore cylinder and a 20-inch stroke provides mounting flexibility for longer dump bodies, helping builders balance lifting leverage and the dump angle their application needs.

Choose Hoist Only when you are supplying a compatible hydraulic system, a Standard Kit with your selected power unit, or a Premium Kit with charging equipment matched to your electrical system.

  • 10-ton / 20,000 lb nominal hoist class, with installation-dependent lifting capacity.
  • 5.5-inch cylinder bore and 20-inch stroke.
  • 7.5 mm / approximately 0.295-inch cylinder wall.
  • Typical applications: 12–16 ft dump trailers, dump truck bodies and suitable replacement hoist installations.
  • Power-unit choices: Primary Mover 12V, KTI 12V with gravity down, or Primary Mover 24V in Standard and Premium packages.
  • 36-month limited hoist warranty, with separate one-year coverage for the Primary Mover or KTI power unit.

The 10-ton class identifies the model; actual lifting capacity depends on moving-body weight, material load, load distribution, rear-hinge overhang, mounting geometry, dump angle and hydraulic pressure. It does not mean every installation can dump 20,000 lb of material.

Check your build with the Scissor Hoist Selector.

Why choose the PF-520’s longer stroke?

The PF-520 shares the PF-516’s 5.5-inch cylinder bore but increases stroke from 16 inches to 20 inches. That additional travel gives builders more flexibility when selecting a mounting arrangement for a longer dump body.

Moving the lifting point farther forward from the rear hinge can improve leverage, but the same lifting travel at that location generally produces less body rotation. The PF-520’s longer stroke helps you work with this trade-off; moving it forward does not automatically increase both lifting capacity and dump angle.

Use the model-specific mounting dimensions and capacity chart to choose an arrangement that meets both your planned load and target angle.

PF-520 or PF-616-6 for a 16-foot dump body?

The PF-520 can be an excellent choice for a suitable 16-foot dump body. However, body length alone does not determine which hoist is the best fit.

If you regularly dump heavy gravel, concrete debris or other dense material—and need substantial lifting reserve while retaining a useful dump angle—compare the PF-616-6 before choosing. Its 6.5-inch-bore cylinder and 16-inch stroke provide a different balance of cylinder force, travel and hoist geometry.

Standard Kit

The Standard Kit includes:

  • PF-520 scissor hoist assembly with its 5.5-inch-bore, 20-inch-stroke hydraulic cylinder
  • Mounting brackets
  • Standard-duty rear hinges (SD hinges)
  • Hydraulic hoses, fittings and connectors
  • Safety prop-arm assembly (safety bar kit)
  • Bridon load-control valve
  • Your selected hydraulic power unit and matching control pendant
  • Safety labels and installation manual

The standard Primary Mover 12V configuration includes a 15-foot, two-button pendant for power-up/power-down operation.

A battery is not included. Supply a suitable battery or battery system matched to your selected power unit’s voltage and electrical requirements. This also applies to Premium Kits.

Premium Kit

The Premium Kit includes your selected Standard Kit configuration plus charging equipment matched to its voltage:

  • Primary Mover 12V or KTI 12V: 12V RoaDCharger with up to 25-amp charging while driving, a 7-way connection harness and a 33-watt solar panel for maintenance charging.
  • Primary Mover 24V: 24V RoaDCharger with a direct-wire charging connection. No solar panel is included in this configuration.

Actual charging current depends on the charging source, wiring, battery condition and installation.

Explore RoaDCharger configurations and connection details.

Choose your hydraulic power unit

  • Primary Mover 12V: Select “Primary” for our standard double-acting power unit with a 2.2 kW / approximately 3 HP motor and a two-button power-up/power-down remote.
  • KTI 12V: Select the KTI configuration for power up, power down and gravity down with its matching three-button control. This selection changes the hydraulic power unit and control, not just the remote.
  • Primary Mover 24V: Choose this double-acting configuration for a suitable 24V battery system. Higher voltage does not automatically produce a faster dump cycle; lifting speed depends on hydraulic flow under load.

Every powered configuration requires a suitable electrical supply, properly sized battery cables and correct installation.

Mounting and installation requirements

Check the PF-520 mounting drawing against your chassis, crossmembers, rear-hinge location and available space. Confirm clearance throughout the lift cycle and provide the structural support required by the installation manual.

Pay particular attention to support and reinforcement at the lower mounting points, rear mounting area, structural crossmembers or subframe, and dump-body attachment points.

The hoist does not increase the rated carrying capacity of the truck or trailer. Account for moving-body weight and remain within all applicable chassis, axle, tire, hinge, hydraulic-system and component ratings.

PF-520 questions and answers

Can the PF-520 lift a 16-foot dump body?

Yes, a 16-foot body is within its typical application range. Confirm the moving-body weight, intended material load, rear overhang, mounting dimensions and target dump angle against the PF-520 capacity chart and installation instructions.

Does the 10-ton rating mean I can dump 20,000 lb of material?

Not in every installation. Actual lifting capacity varies with body length, load position, rear-hinge overhang, mounting geometry, dump angle and hydraulic pressure. The moving dump body also contributes to the load the hoist must raise.

What is the difference between the PF-516 and PF-520?

Both use a 5.5-inch-bore cylinder. The PF-516 has a 16-inch stroke, while the PF-520 has a 20-inch stroke. The longer stroke provides additional mounting flexibility for suitable longer dump bodies, but the complete hoist geometry and capacity chart determine the performance of each installation.

Read the PF-516 vs. PF-520 comparison.

When should I consider the PF-616-6 instead?

Compare the PF-616-6 when a demanding 16-foot application involves frequent heavy loads and a dump-angle requirement that leaves insufficient lifting reserve with the PF-520. Evaluate both models at the same body length, rear overhang and target angle.

Read the PF-520 vs. PF-616 selection guide.

Does mounting the PF-520 farther forward increase dump angle?

Not automatically. Moving the lifting point farther from the rear hinge can improve leverage, but the same lifting travel generally produces less body rotation. The PF-520’s longer stroke gives builders flexibility to balance lifting capability and angle.

Does Hoist Only include a hydraulic pump?

No. Hoist Only includes the hoist assembly and mounting brackets. You supply a compatible hydraulic power system. Selecting “Primary” in the power-unit menu does not add a pump to this package.

Is the KTI option only a three-button remote upgrade?

No. The KTI option includes the KTI hydraulic power unit and its matching three-button control, providing power-up, power-down and gravity-down operation.

What does the Premium Kit add?

Premium adds charging equipment to your selected Standard Kit. The 12V configurations include a RoaDCharger, 7-way connection harness and 33-watt solar panel. The 24V configuration includes a 24V RoaDCharger and direct-wire connection, without a solar panel.

Is a battery included?

No. Supply a suitable battery or battery system matched to the voltage and electrical requirements of your selected hydraulic power unit.
