PF-416: a hydraulic scissor hoist for 10–14 ft dump bodies

The Prime Force PF-416 is a 6-ton-class hydraulic scissor hoist for suitable 10–14 ft dump trailers and dump truck bodies. Its compact mounting arrangement makes it an option for builds that need more lifting capacity than the PF-310 while still requiring careful use of space beneath the dump body.

A 5.5-inch-bore hydraulic cylinder with a 16-inch stroke powers the hoist. Choose Hoist Only for a build with an existing compatible hydraulic system, a Standard Kit with your selected power unit, or a Premium Kit with charging equipment.

  • 5.5-inch cylinder bore and 16-inch stroke in the current PF-416 configuration.
  • 7.5 mm / approximately 0.295-inch cylinder wall for robust cylinder construction.
  • Three power-unit choices in Standard and Premium packages: Primary Mover 12V, KTI 12V with gravity down, or Primary Mover 24V.
  • 36-month hoist warranty, with separate one-year coverage for the Primary Mover or KTI power unit.

The 6-ton class identifies the model; actual lifting capacity depends on your installation. Account for moving body weight, material load, rear-hinge overhang, mounting geometry, dump angle and hydraulic pressure. A 6-ton-class hoist does not mean every installation can dump 12,000 lb of material.

Check your build with the Scissor Hoist Selector.

Standard Kit

The Standard Kit includes:

  • PF-416 scissor hoist assembly with its 5.5-inch-bore, 16-inch-stroke hydraulic cylinder
  • Upper mounting brackets and collars
  • Standard-duty rear hinges (SD hinges)
  • Three-piece safety prop-arm assembly: arm, cup and rest
  • Hydraulic hoses, fittings and connectors
  • Bridon load-control valve
  • Battery tray and battery cables
  • Your selected hydraulic power unit and matching control pendant
  • Warning stickers and installation manual

The battery is not included. Supply a suitable battery or battery system matched to your selected power unit’s voltage and electrical requirements. This also applies to Premium Kits.

Premium Kit

The Premium Kit includes your selected Standard Kit configuration plus charging equipment matched to its voltage:

  • Primary Mover 12V or KTI 12V: 12V RoaDCharger with up to 25-amp charging while driving, a 7-way connection harness and a 33-watt solar panel for maintenance charging.
  • Primary Mover 24V: 24V RoaDCharger with a direct-wire charging connection. No solar panel is included; our current panel does not provide the voltage required for the 24V RoaDCharger.

Actual charging current depends on the charging source, wiring, battery condition and installation.

Choose your hydraulic power unit

  • Primary Mover 12V: Select “Primary” for our standard double-acting power unit with a 2.2 kW / approximately 3 HP motor and a two-button power-up/power-down remote.
  • KTI 12V: Select the KTI power-unit configuration with its matching three-button control for power up, power down and the additional gravity-down option. This option changes the power unit and control, not just the remote.
  • Primary Mover 24V: Choose this double-acting unit to match a 24V battery system. Higher voltage does not automatically produce a faster dump cycle.

All three choices require a suitable electrical supply, properly sized cables and correct installation. If using your own power unit, also confirm pressure, flow, reservoir capacity, plumbing and controls.

Compare Primary Mover and KTI power-unit options for details on motor design, gravity down, battery demand and 12V versus 24V operation.

Hoist warranty 36 months, subject to warranty terms
Power-unit warranty One year for Primary Mover or KTI

Body length alone does not establish fit or lifting capacity. Check the actual mounting points, rear-hinge location, crossmembers, moving clearance and chassis obstructions. Use the manual’s mounting geometry and structural-support requirements, including support beneath the lower mounting feet.

When comparing published drawings and capacity charts, confirm that the information applies to your PF-416 cylinder configuration. Contact Primary Mover if a document shows different specifications from your equipment.

Should you choose the PF-310 or PF-416?

Choose the PF-416 when its mounting requirements and applicable chart capacity fit your build. Its 5.5-inch-bore, 16-inch-stroke cylinder differs from the PF-310’s 3.5-inch-bore, 10-inch-stroke cylinder, and the two models require different mounting arrangements.

For a smaller body or a build with less available mounting space, compare the PF-310 scissor hoist. If your intended load or body dimensions exceed the PF-416’s applicable limits, evaluate a larger model using the capacity charts and installation requirements.

Read the PF-310 vs. PF-416 mounting-space and lifting-capacity comparison, including clearance measurements, rear overhang and dump-angle examples.

PF-416 questions and answers

Will the PF-416 fit my 10–14 ft dump trailer or truck body?

The PF-416 is intended for suitable bodies in this length range, but length alone does not confirm fit. Check body weight, expected material load, rear overhang, mounting geometry, available space and structural support. Use the Scissor Hoist Selector to evaluate your proposed setup.

Does the 6-ton class mean I can dump 12,000 lb of material?

Not in every installation. Available lifting capacity changes with body length, rear overhang, mounting geometry, dump angle and hydraulic pressure. Include the moving dump body’s weight in your selection, and observe the truck or trailer’s own payload and component ratings.

What fabrication and installation work does a PF-416 kit require?

The PF-416 requires a planned installation into a suitable truck or trailer. Installation requires fabrication skills, accurate measurements and careful attention to the mounting geometry and supporting structure. Many installations involve welding and custom fabrication. Any attachment method must meet the manual’s requirements and suit the specific build.

Read the complete Prime Force installation and operator’s manual before beginning fabrication or installation. Follow its mounting, structural-support, operating and safety-prop requirements.

If hiring an installer, provide the complete manual, mounting drawings and all instructions supplied with your kit before work begins. Review the intended application, body weight and load, mounting arrangement and safety requirements together.

If the proposed installation differs from the manual or any requirement is unclear, contact Primary Mover before fabrication begins.

Does Hoist Only include a pump?

No. Hoist Only includes the hoist assembly and mounting hardware, but excludes the hydraulic power unit, remote and electrical accessories. Select “Primary” in the Power Unit Selection menu to purchase this configuration; that menu selection does not add a power unit.

Is a battery included with my PF-416 kit?

No. A battery is not included with any PF-416 package. Standard and Premium Kits include a battery tray and battery cables. Premium Kits also include the charging equipment listed for the selected configuration, but the battery is purchased separately.

Choose a suitable battery or battery system for your selected power unit’s voltage and electrical requirements. Review the power-unit installation instructions before choosing your battery and planning the wiring.

What does Premium add to the Standard Kit?

Premium adds the charging package for your selected voltage. The 12V Premium configurations include a RoaDCharger, 7-way connection harness and 33-watt solar panel. The 24V Premium configuration includes a 24V RoaDCharger and direct-wire connection, with no solar panel.

Which option gives me gravity down?

Select the KTI 12V three-button power unit with a Standard or Premium Kit. It provides power up, power down and gravity down. Our standard Primary Mover configurations provide power up and power down. Compare the controls and battery-use differences.

How thick is the PF-416 cylinder wall?

The PF-416 cylinder wall is 7.5 mm, approximately 0.295 inch. For comparison, a 6 mm wall is approximately 0.236 inch, making the PF-416 wall 25% thicker than a 6 mm wall. Wall thickness alone does not establish a cylinder’s pressure rating or the hoist’s lifting capacity.

Watch our cylinder wall-thickness comparison.

Why might a hoist struggle to begin lifting?

Starting a lift places significant demands on the hoist and hydraulic system. Load placement, moving body weight, mounting geometry, battery condition and hydraulic pressure can all affect performance. Use the approved settings for your equipment rather than increasing pressure to compensate for an unsuitable load or installation.

Read Why Your Scissor Dump Isn’t Dumping — and How to Fix It.

What warranty comes with the kit?

The PF-416 hoist carries a 36-month warranty. The Primary Mover and KTI power units each carry a separate one-year warranty. Coverage for other components follows their applicable terms. Visit Primary Mover Product Warranties for coverage details and support information.

Installation videos and product resources

Use videos alongside the installation manual. Never work beneath a body supported only by hydraulics. Follow the manual’s safety-prop procedures for an unloaded body; the safety prop must not support a loaded body.
