PF-516: an 8-ton hydraulic scissor hoist for 10–14 ft dump bodies

The Prime Force PF-516 is an 8-ton-class hydraulic scissor hoist for suitable 10–14 ft dump trailers and dump truck bodies. It is one of our best-selling models for mid-sized dump-body builds, truck conversions and replacement hoist installations.

A 5.5-inch-bore hydraulic cylinder with a 16-inch stroke powers the hoist. Choose Hoist Only when you have a compatible hydraulic system, a Standard Kit with your selected power unit, or a Premium Kit with charging equipment matched to your electrical system.

  • 8-ton / 16,000 lb nominal hoist class, with installation-dependent lifting capacity.
  • 5.5-inch cylinder bore and 16-inch stroke.
  • 7.5 mm / approximately 0.295-inch cylinder wall.
  • Three power-unit choices in Standard and Premium packages: Primary Mover 12V, KTI 12V with gravity down, or Primary Mover 24V.
  • 36-month limited hoist warranty, with separate one-year coverage for the Primary Mover or KTI power unit.

The 8-ton class identifies the model; actual lifting capacity depends on the installation. Moving body weight, material load, rear-hinge overhang, mounting geometry, dump angle and hydraulic pressure all matter. An 8-ton-class hoist does not mean every installation can dump 16,000 lb of material.

Choose your PF-516 package

Hoist Only

Choose this package when you are supplying a compatible hydraulic power system. It includes the PF-516 hoist assembly and mounting brackets. No hydraulic power unit, control pendant or electrical accessories are included.

To purchase Hoist Only, select “Primary” in the power-unit menu. This required menu selection does not add a pump to the Hoist Only package. When switching from another configuration, select “Primary,” then select “Hoist Only.”

Standard Kit

The Standard Kit includes:

  • PF-516 scissor hoist assembly with its 5.5-inch-bore, 16-inch-stroke hydraulic cylinder
  • Mounting brackets
  • Standard-duty rear hinges (SD hinges)
  • Hydraulic hoses, fittings and connectors
  • Safety prop-arm assembly (safety bar kit)
  • Bridon load-control valve
  • Your selected hydraulic power unit and matching control pendant
  • Safety labels and installation manual

A battery is not included. Supply a suitable battery or battery system matched to your selected power unit’s voltage and electrical requirements. This also applies to Premium Kits.

Premium Kit

The Premium Kit includes your selected Standard Kit configuration plus charging equipment matched to its voltage:

  • Primary Mover 12V or KTI 12V: 12V RoaDCharger with up to 25-amp charging while driving, a 7-way connection harness and a 33-watt solar panel for maintenance charging.
  • Primary Mover 24V: 24V RoaDCharger with a direct-wire charging connection. No solar panel is included; our current panel does not provide the voltage required for the 24V RoaDCharger.

Actual charging current depends on the charging source, wiring, battery condition and installation.

Explore RoaDCharger configurations and connection details.

Choose your hydraulic power unit

  • Primary Mover 12V: Select “Primary” for our standard double-acting power unit with a 2.2 kW / approximately 3 HP motor and a two-button power-up/power-down remote.
  • KTI 12V: Select the KTI configuration for power up, power down and gravity down with its matching three-button control. This selection changes the hydraulic power unit and control, not just the remote.
  • Primary Mover 24V: Choose this double-acting configuration for a suitable 24V battery system. Higher voltage does not automatically produce a faster dump cycle; lifting speed depends on hydraulic flow under load.

Every configuration requires a suitable electrical supply, properly sized battery cables and correct installation. If supplying your own power unit, confirm its pressure, flow, reservoir capacity, hydraulic circuit and controls are compatible with the hoist.

PF-516 specifications and mounting requirements

Model Prime Force PF-516
Nominal hoist class 8 tons / 16,000 lb class; installation-dependent lifting capacity
Typical dump-body length 10–14 ft
Cylinder bore × stroke 5.5 inches × 16 inches
Cylinder wall thickness 7.5 mm / approximately 0.295 inch
Standard and Premium power-unit options Primary Mover 12V, KTI 12V with gravity down, or Primary Mover 24V
Battery included No
Hoist warranty 36-month limited warranty, subject to warranty terms
Power-unit warranty One year for Primary Mover or KTI, subject to applicable terms

Body length alone does not establish fit or lifting capacity. Check the hoist’s mounting drawing against your chassis, crossmembers, hinge location and available space. Account for clearance throughout the lift cycle and provide the structural support required by the installation manual.

Should you choose the PF-416, PF-516 or a larger hoist?

The current PF-416 and PF-516 share a 5.5-inch-bore cylinder with a 16-inch stroke, but their hoist frames, mounting dimensions and pivot geometry differ. The PF-416 has less closed mounting height and a slightly longer arrangement. The PF-516 is a little taller and shorter, with a modest lifting advantage in the published capacity comparisons.

Consider the PF-516 when its taller arrangement fits and its additional lifting margin is useful. When mounting height is tighter, evaluate the PF-416 scissor hoist. Compare the same body length, rear overhang and dump angle in both capacity charts rather than choosing only by the 6-ton and 8-ton class labels.

Read PF-416 vs. PF-516: Which Scissor Hoist Fits Your Build? for the shared-cylinder explanation, mounting-height comparison and a matched capacity example.

If your intended load or body dimensions fall outside the PF-516's applicable limits, compare the PF-520 and larger models using their own charts and installation requirements.

PF-516 questions and answers

Will the PF-516 fit my 10–14 ft dump trailer or truck body?

The PF-516 is intended for suitable dump bodies in this length range. Confirm fit using the mounting drawing, body weight, expected load, rear overhang and available chassis space. Use the Scissor Hoist Selector to evaluate your proposed setup.

Does the 8-ton class mean I can dump 16,000 lb of material?

No. The body’s own weight and installation geometry affect the load the hoist can lift. Use the applicable capacity-chart values and assumptions, and stay within the vehicle, trailer, body and hydraulic-system ratings. A hoist’s lifting capability does not increase the vehicle’s legal payload or GVWR.

Can I use the PF-516 for a flatbed or truck dump-bed conversion?

Yes, when the proposed body, chassis and mounting arrangement are suitable. Plan the rear hinges, hoist attachment points, structural support and moving clearances before fabrication. The kit does not make every existing flatbed or pickup body suitable for conversion.

What fabrication and installation work does the kit require?

Installation requires accurate measurements, appropriate fabrication skills and a properly supported mounting arrangement. Many builds involve welding and custom fabrication. Follow the installation manual and contact Primary Mover before fabrication if your proposed setup differs from the published arrangement.

Does Hoist Only include a hydraulic pump?

No. Hoist Only includes the hoist assembly and mounting brackets, without the pump, remote or electrical accessories. Select “Primary” in the power-unit menu to order it; that selection does not add a pump.

Is a battery included?

No. Supply a battery or battery system suitable for the selected power unit. Match the voltage and follow the power-unit instructions for battery capacity, cable sizing, connections and charging.

Which PF-516 option provides gravity down?

Choose the KTI 12V three-button power-unit configuration with a Standard or Premium Kit. It provides power up, power down and gravity down. Adding a three-button remote to a conventional power unit does not by itself create gravity-down operation.

What does the Premium Kit add?

Premium adds charging equipment to your selected Standard Kit. The 12V configurations include a RoaDCharger, 7-way connection harness and 33-watt solar panel. The 24V configuration includes a 24V RoaDCharger and direct-wire connection, without a solar panel.

Is the 24V option faster than the 12V option?

Not automatically. Choose 24V to match the electrical system you are building. Dumping speed depends on pump flow at the required pressure, cylinder size, load and the complete installation.

How does the PF-516 differ from the PF-416?

Both current models use a 5.5-inch-bore cylinder with a 16-inch stroke. The PF-416 needs less closed mounting height. The PF-516 has a taller arrangement and a modest lifting advantage in the published capacity comparisons. Read the complete PF-416 vs. PF-516 comparison and check the drawings and chart for your installation.

Why might a scissor hoist struggle to begin lifting?

The start of a lift places high demands on the hydraulic and electrical systems. Load position, body weight, mounting geometry, battery condition and hydraulic pressure can affect performance. Follow the approved settings for your equipment; do not increase pressure to compensate for an unsuitable load or installation.

What warranty comes with the PF-516 kit?

The Prime Force hoist has a 36-month limited warranty. Primary Mover and KTI power units have separate one-year coverage. Chargers and other accessories follow their own applicable warranty terms.
